Five Tips for Creating a Show-Home Look
We all want to achieve that show-home style in our own properties, but sometimes it can feel like a step too far. However, it doesn't have to be difficult or expensive to get the aspirational finish that you desire, especially if you follow these few simple tips. You'll soon have a home that is well designed but also practical.
Declutter
One thing that you'll instantly notice about show homes is the lack of clutter that is on display, which isn't always the same as in our own properties. Lots of us will have things out that we no longer use, and these could easily be put away or sold to give you a much cleaner look.
Keep It Simple
A show home is designed with a minimalist style, and generally the walls are kept neutral so that the accessories and furniture can stand out more. This is easy to replicate in your own home by avoiding excessively designed wallpaper and sticking to a simple colour palate that doesn't detract from the rest of the room.
Have a Purpose
It's helpful to ensure that all the different parts of your home, from a small bathroom to a wrought iron balcony, have a specific purpose. This will make it much easier to organise the layout and design the decor, as you have a particular purpose in mind, and it reduces the amount of wasted space that you're left with.
Focus on the Kitchen
In many homes, the kitchen is the space where the family tends to gather together, especially at the end of the day, and this is often a key room within a show home, where a lot of thought goes into the design and layout. It's a good idea to spend time getting this space right and trying to store as many items as you can so that the surfaces don't become cluttered.
Accessorise on the Cheap
Even if you don't have a large budget, you can still make a difference in your property, and focussing on the accessories is much cheaper than investing in large pieces of furniture. For example, if you want to achieve a stylish marble effect in your kitchen but can't afford marble worktops, you could opt for marble chopping boards instead to create a similar effect but without the large expense. Or you could simply add contemporary door handles to the cupboards and drawers.
