Floating Staircases: Building Practical Solutions Beautifully
Staircases are practical. They connect the property’s levels and largely only aim to do so with ease and safety - but Bradfabs believe indoor installation should be more. We’ve been manufacturing bespoke staircases for both private and commercial customers for over 30 years and we always aim to design interior features that add value to the aesthetic of your property.
Floating stairs use a supportive wall to give the illusion that the steps are individual from each other and simply floating in the air. Whilst we’re unable to provide a truly floating experience, Bradfabs have the resources and expertise to deliver a unique staircase complete with beautiful design and expert installation to get you as close as possible to the real thing.
So what’s on offer?
Bradfabs get every facet of staircase design. We’ve manufactured them all from helix and curved, to spiral, and escape staircases; but no staircase quite offers the effect of floating staircases.
In this project (seen below) Bradfabs used channel glass and intelligent balustrade fittings to support the oak treads without the need of stringers.
The contrast of the elegant and modern glass wall against the darker, more traditional oak wood steps really sets this installation apart from the others. It’s simple design offers a clean and unobtrusive feature in this commercial property without compromising on style and ‘wow’ factor.
Similarly, this staircase (seen below) followed suit with the channel glass as support but took advantage of the corner space to create two staircases connected by a small landing. This staircase also featured support from underneath which offers an elegant pattern from beneath - demonstrating Bradfab’s ability to create beauty out of practically.
Perhaps one of our favourite additions to our staircase repertoire is this project for one of our private clients (seen below). This incredibly modern staircase took advantage of the space and bright surroundings with oversized, light oak treads and walled perimeters by extending alternating treads to offer this unique and very beautiful bookshelf.
The spaced treads and light coloured oak welcome light in from surrounding windows and create a balanced, pastel feels to the environment. This project took approximately 4 - 6 weeks and demonstrates the achievable beauty in otherwise practical solutions to staircases.
